Bula Boys FC to Operate as Independent Club in OFC Professional League

FBC News reports that Bula Boys FC, recently confirmed for the inaugural OFC Professional League, will function as an independent club entity and not as Fiji’s national men’s team. Despite sharing the same name, the new side will have a separate management structure, similar to the model used by Fijian Drua under Fiji Rugby Union.

According to Fiji FA CEO Mohammad Yusuf, the association will act as a major shareholder and assist during the startup phase, but it “will not intervene in the club’s day-to-day operations.” The team will instead be run by its own board, with investors and appointed officials overseeing management. Yusuf confirmed that a General Manager will be named next week, with other key positions to follow.

The club’s base location is still to be announced, but Yusuf underlined that the OFC Professional League offers a vital chance for local players to expand their skills and pursue professional careers.

The competition will debut in January 2026 and run through May, with eight clubs from across Oceania and Australia participating.

Is Bula Boys FC the same as the Fiji national team?

No. While they share the name, Bula Boys FC is a club entity with independent management, not the Fiji men’s national side.

Who will control Bula Boys FC?

Fiji FA will be a major shareholder, but the club will be run by its own board, with a General Manager and other officials appointed separately.

When does the OFC Professional League start?

The league kicks off in January 2026 and concludes in May.
