Auckland FC has expressed delight after being confirmed as one of the eight clubs set to compete in the inaugural OFC Professional League, which kicks off on 10 January 2026. The league, Oceania’s first professional competition, will also serve as the region’s pathway to the FIFA Club World Cup 2029.
Club CEO Nick Becker welcomed the decision, stating: “Auckland FC is delighted to have been selected for the inaugural OFC Pro League, subject to the final stages of the licensing and compliance process before full confirmation.”
He added: “We look forward to working with the OFC to ensure the success of the tournament and strengthening our community ties in Auckland and beyond.”
Auckland FC joins Christchurch United as New Zealand’s representatives in the new league, alongside Bula Boys FC (Fiji), Hekari United FC (Papua New Guinea), Solomon Kings FC (Solomon Islands), Tahiti United FC (Tahiti), Vanuatu FC (Vanuatu), and South Melbourne FC (Australia).
Founded in March 2024, Auckland FC quickly made its mark in the A-League Men, the top tier of Australian football. Owned by Black Knight Football and Entertainment and chaired by Bill Foley, the club is based at Go Media Stadium (25,000 capacity). Under manager Steve Corica, Auckland won the 2024–25 A-League Premiership in its debut season, an achievement previously matched only by Western Sydney Wanderers. The club is nicknamed The Black Knights and enjoys strong backing from its supporters group, The Port.
